Bio
Ryan graduated with honors from the University of Texas Austin with a BFA in Theatre Studies and a minor in English. After graduation, he went on to complete his MFA in Acting at the Yale School of Drama. He started tutoring as a side job right after grad school, and, realizing how much he loved it, eventually worked his way up to become the Head Tutor at one of New York’s most prestigious boutique companies, helping guide dozens of students through their college application and standardized testing journeys. Although the bulk of his time has been spent working one-on-one with students both in the US and abroad, he also has experience hiring and training new tutors, running application essay workshops, and developing new curricula for college prep classes.
Alongside his tutoring career, Ryan is an accomplished screenwriter and playwright. He wrote the screenplay for Black Flies, starring Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year after being selected for the 2018 Black List of Hollywood’s favorite unproduced screenplays. He's been a member of several New York-based playwriting groups, including the Ars Nova Playgroup and Primary Stages New American Writers Group, and his plays have been developed across the country. When he’s not tutoring or writing, or helping other people write, he’s spending time with his wife and 10-year-old daughter. Occasionally, he has time to do yoga, meditate, or jog.
